Frantz Omar Fanon (1925-1961) was a West Indian psychoanalytically informed psychiatrist and philosopher. Whereas psychoanalysis previously emphasized inner drives, conflicts and fantasies, Fanon asserted the importance of external conditions such as racism and colonization on the development of the psyche. His writings and radical activism continues to shape the world for the better.
